FINALLY, after a decade, I went back to the BKK! Super happy after it became famous as a mega shopping destination! (HAHA went to Seoul, HK AND BKK this year. 3 shopping trips. :O)
Tagged along my mum's biz trip to BKK, so hotel and food was mostly paid for! I stayed at Holiday Inn Bangkok on Phloenchit Road, which was right opposite Central World and a 10 minute walk to Platinum Mall! Along the way there are small little street stalls that sell all sorts of things from food to shoes.
SO YES. Platinum Mall. My friend and I spent 2 full days exploring ALL the shops of Platinum Mall! It was pretty crowded and the corridors were full of online shop owners getting stocks at wholesale prices. Wholesale prices apply for 2 pieces and above, as a general guideline. It is usually 50-100 baht lower than the price of just 1 piece. My average cost per piece was about 300 baht! (1 SGD = 24.9 baht) Hehe, I didn't buy THAT much though. I had a hard time finding nice shoes too! Eventually buying my shoes/heels at Ma Boon Krong, which is more expensive than Platinum Mall. Oh yeah, they don't allow trying of clothes, so good luck!
Platinum Mall has 2 buildings. The one with the Macdonald's is not worth walking.. It's more expensive and has much fewer shops. But if you've too much time, then sure go ahead!
The current trends in BKK now are the studded/gold/shimmery/knit ones, which suit me perfectly! Most of my stuff came with gold/studs/shimmer somewhere. Am very very pleased. ^^
Food in BKK, amazing. I love spicy food and curry and all. Suits me fine! If you can't take chilli, just tell them you don't want the chilli in the dish! The price is super reasonable as well. Even a meal at the HOTEL for dinner with 3 dishes and free flow of 3 types of rice (WHAT!) was only about 2660 baht. That was at Holiday Inn's Charm Thai, mind you. So of course it'll be much cheaper outside! I recommend papaya/mango salad and yellow curry with soft shell crab if you can find these! Desserts wise, mango sticky rice of course! + durian sticky rice for the durian fans! Try drinking the meiji/non-meiji yakults from 7-eleven for only like 5-20 baht depending on the size!
It was mega hot there though, like 36deg. So I just wore a tank and shorts everyday! Do bring a slingbag and change more money! JUST SPEND. ><
