Vivo's one of my favourite places to go to. Simply because it's near my house/NUS, has great facilities like the monorail to sentosa + golden village and lots of food places. Was quite happy when Jamie Oliver announced that he would be opening up his restaurant in Vivo - Jamie's Italian. Being the foodie that I am, I had to visit it.
Was walking around one late afternoon and spotted that there was no queue at Jamie's!! Since it was nearly 5pm and T had something on later at night, we decided to go for an early dinner. Lo and behold, there was actually a waiting time for a table -- 45 minutes. Fine with us, so we shopped around a bit and killed some time (& money) at Sephora. They called us when our table was ready, so we hurried along. Jamie's will only hold your table for 10-15 minutes before they give it up, so be sure to run over.
I love the layout of the menu. So different from the classic black-white printed Arial font size 12 menus. Wasn't very hungry so I decided to go for the half-size Wild Truffle Risotto and T ordered the 'The Jamie's Italian Burger'. For sides we added on Crispy Squid and Posh Chips.
For all the hype and the relatively ex prices... the food wasn't that nice. The portion of the half-sized risotto isn't worth it. If you want to eat this, go for the full portion. The risotto was pretty average, sigh. T's burger was not bad, but we aren't entirely sure if it was worth the $27++. The posh chips came with hardly any truffle taste, so we asked the waiter if they could drizzle more truffle oil. To our pleasant surprise, he said they would re-make the entire portion for us with more truffle oil. 2 thumbs up for service! It came back soaked in oil though.. Zzzz. I liked the crispy squid, which was my favourite out of everything! We were too full to try dessert, so we said to leave it for next time... if there was a next time.
If you're a hardcore Jamie's fan, you may still wanna try this out. If not, you could always go to a better Italian restaurant, there's plenty around.
