Yeah i'm finally back from Japan! Sorry I couldn't update earlier. I was (and still am) sick. Was sick before the trip even began and I think the cold made it much worse!
Anyway. The main purpose of going to Tokyo was for a Med Student Conference from 26-30 Dec. Then we extended our trip for 3 days as a Singapore delegation! During the conference we stayed in the Hotel Metropolitan Edmont located in the Suidobashi area. It was an average hotel, but still okay considering we didn't pay that much in conference fees. The hosting uni was the Tokyo Medical and Dental University. The Group Moderators brought us sightseeing at places like Asakusa and the Tokyo Skytree. I'd say the conference was pretty fun, but was super tiring. Too tiring, in fact. Oh well. My group was not bad, but I have to say, I love the Koreans <3
For our extension, we decided to go cheap on accom. So we chose a capsule hotel called Ace Inn Shinjuku. It was not bad actually, pretty cosy. Just that space was quite tight, obviously. The showers are available in the basement for 100 yen per 10 minutes. Hahaha. As for our own plans, we went to Tsukiji Fish Market (best sashimi ever for super reasonable prices!), Harajuku, Tokyo Tower, Disneysea, Ueno and some place which I can't ever remember the name of. Countdown in Tokyo was quite disappointing, no fireworks, no big countdown. Tokyo Tower just flashed a '2013' on 2 sides. Ah welllllll. Disneysea was super crowded... and cold at night. A, T and I also summed up the courage to go to a Japanese Onsen before we went to Haneda Airport for our flight back to Singapore. I must say it was quite an experience, do go with an open mind. The most exciting night of the trip was probably the night we went to a Jap club called Harlem at Shibuya (where the famous crossing is). We got epicly lost and had to call our friends to come get us. The entry fee was 3000 yen with a free drink and the cab back was 1200 yen per person. Expensive but a really fun night out. Other nights we just went for supper/walks.
Anyway it was about 0-8 deg I would say. So depending on the cold, I would be wearing 3 - 5 layers. I survived without heattech, so if you are wearing heattech you can -1 layer. As for bottoms, it's just 1 layer. Either jeans, or normal cotton on leggings or wool-lined leggings which I got from BKK. If I knew I was gonna be out the whole day, I would wear the wool-lined ones just in case! I also wore mid-calf length wool socks inside my boots. The boots from LB served me really well! The booties from TCL would have been impossible to walk in, but it was okay to club for a few hours in! I brought 2 coats on the trip, 1 wool one from Zara and a Burberry raincoat. Can't really see what I wear inside cause I'm mostly wearing the coat outside. Haha! Oh remember a scarf too!
